Just heard the new Bond song. Sounds like an insipid copy of Skyfall to me. What possessed them to use Sam Smith?

Matt Monro was brilliant too Russia with love.
I think having a good voice to carry the song helps.
Sam Smith has a decent voice but its not the right voice for Bond.
All they think about is marketing and money the integrity of the film and character is a mere after thought.

Diamonds are forever and Goldfinger are for me the best Bond theme songs.
The Sam Smith song was awful and not at all bond like it has to have a flavor at least of what went before.

Agreed - the Chris Cornell one is actually very good, but got scandalously little publicity/airtime
The Jack white/Alicia keys one starts ok and then descends into utter nonsense.
I don't get why Sam smith goes so high pitch all the way through. If there was some variation or some lower parts, the song would be so much better for it.

I heard the interview he said the vocal was the first draft. Lots of post production. But that would spoil a good story

He may have been referring to the first draft of the song, which would be very raw. I think Adele said her first draft took about 10/15 minutes too. Most good songwriters can come up with something in minutes, how good that is and how much further work it needs to get to the end product is another thing though.

Some songs take 5 minutes to write and some take 5 years.
Its got nothing to do with quality, its just a 'thing'.
And if you think about it too much you'll never write another song again.

I hated Skyfall, as it was a Bond theme by numbers for me.
It's better when they go off the formula a bit, like Live & Let Die, Nobody Does It Better and the Chris Cornell One. Also, the 80s ones that Aha and Duran Duran did were pretty good.
The worst one ever was Jack White and Alicia Keys.

Sam Smith is a typical raving bum sniffer. Did an interview last year where he was 'going to open up about the time his heart was broken in two by another man'. Was all built up like some big love story when it turned out he had fallen for his straight manager who had no interest in touching knobs.
Sam Smith is fucking div.
